After a long six years, VH1 Hip Hop Honors is back, coming to you live from New York on July 11.

Known for paying homage to some of the most well-known hip-hop artists in the game, this year they will be honoring female pioneers, trailblazers, and trendsetters in the male-dominated entertainment industry.

Celebrating women who work extremely hard and made a mark in hip-hop, VH1 announced Queen Latifah as the first honoree of the night. Queen Latifah, the OG herself, will be recognized for paving the way for female rappers in the game.

The songstress/actress will also executive produce the show through her entertainment company, Flavor Unit.

Latifah is the definition of a BOSS. Running her own production company, being a rap pioneer, singer, and a nominated/award-winning actress, she’s an influential, positive figure to look up to.

All Hail The Queen!

Keep an eye out, as VH1 will be announcing additional honorees later in the week.
